Fantastic historical venue. The engine steams on bank holidays - fantastic experience for all the family - a step back in time.

Went to Ryhope museum on an off chance one sunday.came across a few of the volunteers that work there.Absoulte brilliant people.Had loads of time for us even though the engines were not in steam.Took us around the full building and had loads of time for us.They say to get the full experience we need to go back when the engines are in steam and running.Every bank holiday weekends the engines are running so going to go back and see them in action.5 stars to the volunteers that work there

This has to be one of the best (live) historical venues in the region, apart from North East Maritime Trust. The area is historic, there was also a Victorian hospital next to the pumping station and we often would see work going on at the station and a lovely old smoking chimney in the background. I think it only opens to the public a couple of times a year though so check online first for live steaming.

Engines only run on certain days ago check the timetable on the Web site interesting and fascinating for kids although the little one was a bit scared by the size and scale of the engines. Highly recommended, run by knowledgeable and friendly volunteers. Spent some time watching the blacksmith who was seeking shaped horse shoes. Kids were enthralled.

Amazing place , great for a visit any weekend. But awesome when the boilers are fired up and the steam power is turning the machinery. There's also a working blacksmiths shop and the tea room serving delicious home made produce. Please check it out you'll have a brilliant time not to be missed
